NCT fans were saddened when Jaehyun enlisted in September 2024, knowing they would miss his music and performances. However, months into his military service, a video of him performing with the military band surfaced online, leaving his fans surprised. While Jaehyun appeared to be enjoying his time on stage, many couldn’t help but notice his sudden “weight gain". Dressed in a red band uniform, the idol looked fuller, with some fans commenting that he seemed healthier before enlistment. Others, however, felt that the change made him look even younger.

According to Instiz, fans noticed that Jaehyun’s face appears “chubbier", while some believe he has “gained weight" overall. Many even compared his new look to that of a baby, calling him cuter and more handsome than before. Despite the change in his appearance, fans continue to support him and appreciate his talent. Meanwhile, another NCT member, Taeyong, enlisted in the military in April 2024. Now, fans of both idols are eagerly counting down the days until their return.

Jaehyun’s appearance isn’t the only thing grabbing fans’ attention. A video of him singing Rose and Bruno Mars’ APT has also left fans excited. In the clip, the NCT star is seen delivering the opening lines originally sung by Mars, performing alongside Cho Seung-youn, aka Woodz, for the Korea Military Academy graduates. Fans were thrilled to see Jaehyun showcasing his vocals even during his military service, proving that his passion for music remains strong.

In September 2024, Jaehyun penned an emotional note before starting his military service. He wrote, “I wanted to write a short message to express my feelings to Czennie. I find myself feeling grateful once again for the precious memories, relationships and the depth of love I’ve experienced, things I wouldn’t have felt if it weren’t for this career. I’ve always moved at my own pace, but I’m so thankful and love you all so much for always believing in me, adjusting and moving forward together."

“I say with words that I’ll be back soon, that it’ll just be a little while, but I know I’ll miss you. I promise to return safely and in good health, so please take care of yourselves, both body and mind. I’ll spend my time looking back on the memories we’ve made and looking forward to the journey we’ll share in the future. We’re unconditionally timeless," he added.

Jaehyun enlisted as a member of the ROK Army band and the singer is expected to complete his military service in May 2026.
