When Vikrant Massey Quit TV Despite Earning Rs 35 Lakh A Month: ‘I Chose Peace Over Money'
Vikrant Massey announced his retirement from acting at the age of 37, leaving fans shocked. The Lootera star had previously shared how he left a ₹35 lakh monthly TV career to pursue films.

Vikrant Massey shocked fans today by announcing his retirement from acting at the age of 37 via social media. The actor, who made a memorable Bollywood debut with Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootera, had previously reflected on his career and relationship with money in a candid interview earlier this year. In a video on Unfiltered by Samdish, Vikrant shared how he left television, where he was earning ₹35 lakh a month, to pursue his dream of working in films.
Recalling a pivotal moment in his life, Vikrant narrated, “I once called some of my closest friends home in college. My mom cooks really well, so I called everyone home to eat. But when they saw my home, the plastic chairs, chipping paint, leaky ceiling, how the kitchen isn’t aesthetically clean, their behaviour changed… They left within an hour of coming to my home. I later saw chats of them badmouthing my home."

This experience deeply impacted him, initially leading him to believe that earning money was the key to gaining respect. However, he later realised that financial success alone did not bring him peace. “I earned a lot of money when working in TV. I bought my first home at 24, I was earning 35 lakh per month. It was a lot for someone from a family like mine where we struggled to make ends meet. After I bought the home, paid off debts, gave my parents a better life, I still couldn’t sleep peacefully. I quit at that stage because good work felt more important. All my savings were exhausted, and Sheetal (his wife) would lend me money to attend auditions," he said.
Vikrant’s decision to retire comes as a surprise, especially as he is at the peak of his career. In his emotional announcement, he wrote:
“Hello, The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor. So, coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many a years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted."
Vikrant was recently praised for his performances in 12th Fail and Sector 36. His latest film, The Sabarmati Report, based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident, is currently running in theatres. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film stars Raashii Khanna and Riddhi Dogra alongside Vikrant. According to Sacnilk, the movie has grossed ₹28.25 crore domestically in 17 days.
