Zarina Wahab On Why Aditya Pancholi Doesn't Take New Projects
Zarina Wahab stated how the incident had an impact on Aditya Pancholi who feared that he would be inflicted with similar disrespecting behaviour.
Aditya Pancholi is a well known face in Bollywood from the 1990s but has been mostly away from the screen recently. His wife, actress Zarina Wahab, in her latest interview, revealed the reason behind the actor not taking up new projects. She mentioned Aditya refused to accept character roles as he grew older after witnessing the treatment veteran actor Shammi Kapoor received on production in his later years. Zarina stated how it had an impact on him and feared that he would be inflicted with similar disrespecting behaviour.
In conversation with Lehren Retro, Zarina stated that Aditya once worked with Shammi in a home near Juhu. One of the bungalow’s rooms was cleaned so Aditya could get ready. When he arrived in that room, which even had air conditioning, he enquired about Shammi Kapoor’s arrival and discovered that the star was already present, but he was sitting in the garden. She narrated, “He looked down and he saw that Shammi ji was sitting near the bushes under the umbrella and getting his makeup done. Aditya ran downstairs and asked ‘Sir, aap neeche? Please come to the make up room.’ Shammi ji said ‘No, no I am comfortable here. You carry on’."

Zarina Wahab mentioned that this moved Aditya so deeply that he decided to give up on acting once he was stopped being cast as the lead. She added, “After that he decided that when I have to become a character artiste, I will not work. If they can treat Shammi ji like this, then who are we? This was the main reason he stopped working." Zarina explained that those who looked up to an actor when they are a hero, disrespect them once they are character artiste. While that is not right, it is how the industry functions.
Zarina added that Aditya Pancholi’s last film appearance was in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. The actor was also approached by the director for a role in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar but Aditya declined the offer stating he does not want to work.
Aditya Pancholi made his acting debut with Shahadat in 1985. Most recently, he has worked in films such as Race 2 , Jai Ho, Dishkiyaoon and Hero.
