A group of over 20 people, men and women allegedly stormed Savukku Shankar’s residence in Kilpauk. At the time, his mother was alone at home. In her complaint, she said that the intruders broke in through the door and ransacked the house and dumped sewage mixed with human excreta inside the premises.
The assault could be linked to Savukku Shankar’s recent exposé on “corruption" in the procurement of sewage trucks, she said in the complaint. Savukku Shankar accused top city police officers of orchestrating the attack, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).
He alleged that the group was acting at Chennai Police Commissioner A Arun’s behest and shared CCTV footage of the group vandalising his house.
What Savukku Shankar Said On His Home Being Ransacked
Savukku Shankar said his recent statements in his YouTube channel were all about the “corruption" in the purchase of new vehicles and not against sanitary workers. He further claimed that despite informing the police immediately of the incident, only a sub-Inspector and a constable arrived at the scene. The attackers staged a protest for hours without leaving the premises, he claimed.
Leaders React To Savukku Shankar’s Home Being Attacked
The attack has drawn sharp political reactions. AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami strongly condemned the incident, saying, “No one who believes in democracy will tolerate this. This incident showcases the height of cruelty, and anyone with a conscience should hang their head in shame, as it has happened under the DMK regime, which boasts of ruling as per law."
Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram called the incident “highly condemnable and gross" as he urged the Tamil Nadu police to take immediate action against the perpetrators.
