The film is a family drama that revolves around a father-daughter duo – Shiv and Dhara. After Dhara (Inayat) loses her mother, she stays with her father (Abhishek Bachchan) and her grandfather in Ooty. With a passion for dance, Dhara wins a dance competition in the city, following which she gets an invite from Nora Fatehi – a dance teacher – to join her academy in Mumbai. While Shiv initially refuses to shift to Mumbai, he later decides to relocate to fulfil his daughter’s dream to become the country’s best dancer. However, their life turns upside down when they learn that the little girl is suffering from bone cancer.

What Works Wonder For Be Happy?

While the film falls a little flat, it is the performances by Abhishek Bachchan and little Inayat that keep one hooked. After I Want To Talk, Jr Bachchan has been able to solidify his act as a single father here. He plays his part with utmost sincerity and perfection. Abhishek Bachchan’s dance sequence with her daughter will give you goosebumps and is definitely worth watching.

On the other hand, Inayat, who was also seen in Ranbir Kapoor’s Tu Joothi Main Makkar, has once again proved that her age has nothing to do with her talent. She is amazing and a delight to watch on screen. She aces her role and also manages to bring a dose of humour and entertainment in the film.

Nora Fatehi, however, fails to add any depth to the story or to her character. Johnny Lever’s comedy also looks forced and makes no sense. It could have been easily avoided. Nassar, who plays the role of Dhara’s grandfather, also looks wasted. His role as a supporting grandpa is very predictable.

What Does Not Work For Be Happy?

It is the story writing and direction that need to be blamed for Be Happy’s flat execution. Director Remo D’Souza’s signature style, which often prioritises high-energy dance numbers, falls flat due to a weak script. The narrative is predictable and offers nothing new to the audience. It does not even explore or add depth to its characters. The story fails to explore their motivations, emotions, and relationships, leaving audiences uninvested.

As a result, the film’s potential is wasted. With a more solid script and attention to character development, Be Happy could have been a more engaging and memorable film.
