Ben Affleck is officially done with Batman. The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star recently reflected on his decade-long stint as the Caped Crusader and described his experience with DC as “excruciating."

In an interview with GQ, Affleck, 52, explained that he’s lost interest in the superhero genre, not solely because of the negative experience but because he feels DC movies no longer resonate with younger audiences. “There are a number of reasons why that was a really excruciating experience," Affleck said. “And they don’t all have to do with the simple dynamic of being in a superhero movie. I’m just not interested anymore."

Affleck revealed that the poor experience was due to a “misalignment of agendas, understandings, and expectations." However, he also admitted his own shortcomings. “I wasn’t bringing anything particularly wonderful to that equation either," he said. “I didn’t cause problems, but I came in, did my job, and went home. But you’ve got to do a little better than that."

Reflecting on his time with DC, Affleck acknowledged that he didn’t bring positive energy to the project. “Part of my failings as an actor — you can watch the movies and judge — but part of it was also that I was unhappy. I wasn’t bringing a lot of positive energy to the equation," he said.

Affleck first donned the Batsuit in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice alongside Henry Cavill. He went on to star in Justice League (both the 2017 theatrical release and 2021’s Snyder Cut) and had brief appearances in The Flash and Suicide Squad (2016).

The actor was also slated to direct and star in a standalone Batman film, but the project was scrapped amid creative differences. “I’ve lost interest in what was once fascinating to me about it," Affleck said, stating that he’s ready to move on from the superhero world.
