Chitrangada Singh expressed her excitement about portraying a woman who, after facing personal tragedy, boldly steps into the challenging world of politics.

Chitrangada Singh is making her presence felt once again, this time with Netflix’s political thriller Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. The show, which boasts a stellar cast consisting of Jeet, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee, Saswata Chatterjee and Ritwik Bhowmik, sees the actress as a formidable opposition leader Nibedita Basak. Her return to the small screen with a substantial, well-defined character has already caught the attention of fans and critics alike.
Now, in an interview with Zoom, the 48-year-old actress shared her experience of working on the Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. Interestingly, this is Chitrangada’s just second role in a web series after her stint in Amazon Prime’s Modern Love Mumbai, which was released in 2022.

During her conversation with the media outlet, Chitrangada shared that it had been a long since she was offered a compelling character. “Well, it’s been honestly a while since I played a character like this. Nothing so interesting has come my way in a very long time. I really enjoyed it," she remarked, adding, “I hadn’t played somebody giving speeches. I think I’ve always naturally gone towards characters like this. Such a well-written character, I don’t think I got in a very long time offered to me."
For Chitrangada, portraying Nibedita was layered and intense. While speaking about her role in the new Netflix series, the actress shared that she was really excited to play the woman, shaped by a personal tragedy, who then decides to enter into the challenging world of politics. She said, “The whole journey of her emotionally and professionally otherwise was very interesting for me to play."
Furthermore, the Desi Boyz actress spoke about the ensemble cast of Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. Despite not sharing the screen with Prosenjit Chatterjee or Ritwik Bhowmik due to their character arcs, she lauded director Neeraj Pandey’s thought process and creativity.
“I think Neeraj Pandey stands for somebody who, I mean, I’m not like I’m trying to give a pat on our backs or anything. But I feel like he really makes sure that every single person is cast so right," she explained. Calling the cast “biggest ensembles or the best ensembles" for a show on Netflix, Chitrangada mentioned that there was no dearth of talent on the show, from the smallest to the biggest stars, everyone was nothing short of amazing.
After the Netflix show, the 48-year-old actress will be next seen in the multi-starrer film Housefull 5, opposite Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan and others.
