One-In-A-Million Egg Sold For Rs 43,000 In Britain
A perfectly round egg from Fenton Farm in Britain sold for Rs 43,000 at auction, with proceeds going to Devon Rape Crisis Organisation. Farm worker Alison Green discovered the rare egg in January

Chicken and duck eggs are commonplace in markets, with prices generally ranging from Rs 7 to Rs 15, although variations exist between urban and rural areas. However, an egg recently fetched an astounding Rs 43,000 at a British auction, equivalent to $500. This begs the question: what made this particular egg so extraordinary?

As reported by New York Post, staff at Fenton Farm in Britain were astonished to discover a perfectly round egg. Unlike typical eggs, which are slightly pointed at the ends and narrower in the middle, this one was uniformly spherical. This rarity, estimated to be a one-in-a-million occurrence, led to its remarkable selling price.
The proceeds from the auction were donated to the Devon Rape Crisis Organisation.
An Astounded Farmer
Alison Green, a farm worker with three years of experience handling around 30,000 eggs, had never encountered such a phenomenon. She discovered the egg in January and preserved it in salt to prevent spoilage. Green suspected the buyer would treasure the egg for its rarity rather than consuming it.
Green had considered purchasing the egg herself if the price remained low but was astounded by the final bid. This isn’t the first instance of a perfectly round egg being found. In 2023, an Australian woman also stumbled upon one.
