An employee has recently revealed to Reddit that he was thrown out of a business meeting for laughing at memes and later warned by HR. The issue immediately went viral on the social media platform. While some people found it amusing, others criticised it as unprofessional conduct.

The Reddit post explained how the employee couldn’t stop giggling after his mind suddenly came up with a “funny meme" as his business head was talking about what they considered were “unachievable targets."

The user recalled that the business head asked him why was he smiling, and “I couldn’t think of anything. He asked again, ‘Are you listening to me?’ I said yes."

He said that he “couldn’t control" his laugh when he saw the boss’ “confused face" and thought of another joke.

The employee’s response was taken into consideration, and he was eventually “let go from the meeting." He added that HR subsequently gave him a formal warning for “unprofessional behaviour" and summoned him in to speak with his manager.

Several Reddit users flocked to the comment section to offer a variety of responses on the matter. While some people thought the story was humorous, others felt the employee was at fault.

One user wrote, “Intrusive thoughts came out," followed by clapping hands emoticon.

A second Redditor added, “Print these memes and stick it in his desk."

Another user said, “Deserved, I think, especially in this country. Thinking about a meme isn’t wrong, but if you’re dumb enough to laugh when your manager asks what’s wrong, bro you’re just asking for trouble."

“Just say you felt nervous being put on the spot like that," one suggested.

Earlier, L&T chairman SN Subrahmanyan received widespread criticism for pushing for a “90-hour workweek" and expressing a desire to require Sunday work. He even asked, “How long can you stare at your wife? How long can wives stare at their husbands?"

Subrahmanyan’s comments swiftly gained widespread attention online, and memes began to pour in following his endorsement of the “90-hour Work Week."

Social media users even likened Subrahmanyan’s remarks to earlier suggestions made by Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy regarding professionals implementing a 70-hour work week.
