The 2.44-km-long bridge is in its final stage, with road asphalting in progress. Other finishing works, including painting, are expected to be completed by May. Sources suggest the inauguration will take place either in the last week of May or the first week of June. The project has been built at a cost of Rs 423 crore.

Shivamogga MP B Y Raghavendra is set to visit Delhi to get the confirmation of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, for the inauguration. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid on 19th February 2018.

Currently, people in the Tumari region and pilgrims visiting Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple rely on large ferries for transportation. Once the bridge opens, the ferry services are expected to end, providing faster and more convenient travel.

At present, travellers from Sigandur or Tumari need to take an 80-km road journey to reach Sagar town. The bridge will reduce this distance by half, significantly improving connectivity. It will also shorten the travel time between Kollur in Udupi district and Sagar.

According to bridge in-charge officer Peer Pasha, the structure has been designed to withstand 80-tonne vehicles.

Unlike traditional bridges that require nearly 100 piers, this one has been built with just 17 piers and two abutments. Cable-stayed bridges are known for their strength and stability, with diagonal cables transferring the deck’s load to the towers.
