Ashutosh Sharma (66 from 31 balls) first joined hands with Tristan Stubbs (34 from 22 balls) and then with Vipraj Nigram (39 from 15 balls) to win the match out of nowhere for the Delhi-based franchise.

During his stay at the crease, Ashutosh hammered five fours and four sixes.

For LSG, star Indian pacer Shardul Thakur, who joined the Lucknow-based franchise as a replacement player on Sunday, picked up two wickets, and Manimaran Siddharth also accounted for the dismissal of two DC batters for 39 runs in four overs.

Earlier in the first half, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram opened the innings for Rishabh Pant & Co. and added 46 runs for the first wicket in 4.4 overs. Vipraj, on his IPL debut, broke the partnership by removing South Africa’s T20I captain Markram (15 from 13 balls), but after his dismissal, Marsh joined hands with Nicholas Pooran, and the duo added 87 runs for the second wicket.

The two explosive batters played big shots for fun and took LSG’s total past the 100-run mark in just 8.2 overs. Marsh scored 72 runs from 36 balls with the help of six fours and as many sixes before being sent back to the pavilion by Mukesh Kumar on the fourth ball of the 12th over. But his wicket had no impact on Pooran, and he continued the onslaught.

The former West Indies’ T20I captain hit Tristan Stubbs for four sixes and one four in the 13th over to collect a total of 28 runs.

LSG fans had high hopes from Rishabh Pant, but the most expensive player in IPL history failed to open his account despite facing six balls. He was caught by Faf du Plessis near the boundary ropes off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling, and in the next over of Pant’s wicket, Mitchell Starc removed Pooran as well. The left-handed batter scored 75 runs from 30 balls with the help of six fours and seven sixes.

The quick departure of Pooran and Pant helped DC make a comeback in the match, and in the last five overs their bowlers only conceded 39 runs and also picked up four wickets.

Kuldeep finished the match with bowling figures of 2 for 20 in four overs, and Starc picked 3 for 42.

    Brief scores
