Centre Announces 24% Salary Hike, Pension Revision For MPs | Check New Pay

The Narendra Modi-led union government on Monday announced a major appraisal- 24% hike in salaries- for the members of the Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) with effect from April 1, 2023.
The notification, issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, also announced an increase in daily allowances for sitting members and pension and additional pension for every year of service in excess of five years for former members on the basis of the Cost Inflation Index.

The increase in the salary has been notified in exercise of the powers granted under the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act on the basis of the Cost Inflation Index specified in the Income Tax Act of 1961.
“In Exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 3 ad sub-section (1A) of section 8A of the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 (30 of 1954), the Central Government hereby notifies the increase in the salary, daily allowance, pension and additional pension of Members and Ex-Members of Parliament on the basis of Cost Inflation specified under clause (v) of the Explanation to section 48 of the Income-Tax Act, 1961 (43 of 1961), with effect from 1st April, 2023," the notification read.
What Would Be The Increased Salary/Pension?
A sitting member of Parliament will now get Rs 1.24 lakh per month as salary as against Rs 1 lakh per month they received earlier. The daily allowance has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500.
The pension for former MPs has been increased from Rs 25,000 per month to Rs 31,000 per month. The additional pension for every year of service in excess of five years has been increased from Rs 2,000 per month to Rs 2,500 per month.
Earlier, some states have also hiked the salaries of their legislative members. Recently, the Karnataka government raised salaries of the state MLAs by 100% including that for the Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers.
Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah had also hiked the constituency development funds for the MLAs from Rs 3 crore to Rs 4 crore.
