Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has voiced her frustration over India’s repeated snubs at the Academy Awards, stating that the country has been “robbed" of its well-deserved Oscar wins multiple times. On Sunday evening, the actress shared a new video on her Instagram while getting ready for the Louis Vuitton show in Paris. In the clip, she spoke about the Oscars and reminisced about witnessing India’s historic win for Naatu Naatu from RRR at the ceremony.

In the video, Deepika shared that one of the wins at this year’s Oscars that truly made her happy was Adrien Brody’s victory for Best Actor. He won the award for his performance in The Brutalist.

    Talking about an Oscar that has been a personal win for her, Deepika said, “India has been robbed of the Oscars many times. Many, many deserving movies I feel like has got snubbed. Whether its movies, whether its talent… But I remember being in the audience and when they announced RRR, I got emotional. Outside of being an Indian I had really nothing to do with that movie but that was a huge, huge moment. That felt very, very personal."

    RRR won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2023 for Naatu Naatu.

    Deepika’s video featured glimpses of critically acclaimed Indian films, including Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, Rahi Anil Barve’s Tumbbad, and Ritesh Batra’s The Lunchbox. Despite their widespread praise, none of these films received an Oscar nomination.

    At the 97th Academy Awards, Anora emerged as the biggest winner of the night, taking home five Oscars. The film won Best Picture, while Mikey Madison secured Best Actress. Sean Baker dominated with three wins, earning Best Director, Best Editing, and Best Original Screenplay.

    Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone is the first Indian to be signed as a global ambassador for luxury fashion houses Louis Vuitton and Cartier. The global star was in Paris to attend the Louis Vuitton show at the Cour Carrée du Louvre, the main courtyard of the Louvre Palace.
